Dua for forgiveness of sins – Allah’s forgiveness is referred to by three names. Ghafir gives the meaning of Forgiver, whilst Ghafur and Ghaffur convey the implication that Allah is quite forgiving, i.e., being ever-forgiving and protection.
We all make mistakes and are human. The ability to recognize mistakes and sins after they have been committed is a blessing from Allah s.w.t. since this is a form of guidance for us to ask for forgiveness from Him. In a hadith, Abu Hurairah r.a. shared that Allah s.w.t. teaches us to repent and ask forgiveness from Him. Based on reports:
“By Allah, I ask for forgiveness and repent to God more than seventy times every day.” the Prophet said.
(al-Bayhaqi and Ibn Majah) This is why the Prophet Muhammad said that a person who repents sins is like a person who has never committed a sin. Blessings and peace be upon him. Many places in the Quran refer to Allah as Oft-Forgiving because He created us to be capable of sin and to ask for forgiveness, which He always answers.

Those who seek Allah’s forgiveness will be forgiven if they seek it. In His word: “Ask My slaves, (O Muhammad), that I am the Lord of forgiveness and the Lord of mercies.” “Although Allah loves every repentant soul and He loves every cleansed soul.”
In the beginning, we should avoid committing major sins. If I were you if I would have committed some sins and wanted repentance I would not have thought it would be possible. But if I were you I would believe that your sins were too large to forgive.
It is reported that the Prophet s.a.w. asked for forgiveness one hundred times a day. Repentance is of great importance for us in this context. Rather than dwelling on our sins or losing hope in Allah s.w.t’s Mercy when we realize them, the biggest mistake we can make is to dwell on them.
